welcome to
round 2 of the a.c.e fic fest
le fantastique
about
welcome to le fantastique, round 2 of the a.c.e fic fest! this is a themed fest for the members of a.c.e. the theme for this round is fantasy. round 2 will run from july-december 2020.
the goal of this fest is to bring a.c.e writers & readers together and fill up the a.c.e tag on ao3.
this fest uses the prompting and claiming system. anyone can submit a prompt, and submit as many as they want! then, writers will claim prompts to write for the fest. this fest is also anonymous! authors will be revealed after the fest is over.
rules & guidelines
this time around, the fest has a theme. the theme isn't mandatory, but is heavily encouraged! the theme is fantasy in general. a more in-depth explanation of the theme can be found below by clicking on the "theme" button.
the fics must be about a.c.e. it can feature members from other groups/solo idols but please, no major crossovers! we want this fest to be a.c.e-focused.
the minimum word count for this fest is 1,500 words! there is no maximum word count. there will be a different word requirement for each check-in. more details on the schedule page!
fics cannot contain: any form of incest, underage (nsfw content involving minors), non-con, extreme violence/gore, or explicit self-harm/suicide. fics will be checked before final postings, and denied if they contain any of this content. minor violence or other dark themes are allowed, as well as nsfw/smut.
this is obvious, but no plagiarism! this goes for prompts & fics.
if your fic is chaptered, the entire fic must be complete before the final submission deadline. if you need an extension, or need to negotiate how to post/when to post your fic, please dm our twitter, we may make an exception!
fics must be written in english & posted to ao3, to our collection. instructions for how to submit will be posted later.
if you want to join, but don’t have an ao3 account, please dm the twitter and we can help you get one.
more details about being anonymous: you can say that you’re in the fest, and share the fest (in fact, we encourage this!) but please keep silent about what prompt you have, or any details of the fic!
theme
★ what is a themed fic fest?
a themed fic fest is a fic fest in which all fics follow a similar theme. this can be a genre, a trope, a setting, etc. examples you may have seen before include: summer-themed, holiday-themed, or rating-based.
★ what does the theme "fantasy" entail?
for this fest, fantasy is defined as the plot being centered around or featuring anything fantastical, whether it be characters, places, plots, etc.
fantasy itself is an umbrella term, and contains lots of subgenres as well as common themes and tropes in itself. a common theme for example is the existence of magic.
any subgenre is allowed, as long as the content of your fic follows the general rules and guidelines, and your fic is centered around it. check out this link for a list of fantasy subgenres.
★ what does "le fantastique" mean?
this fest is named after a subgenre of fantasy! le fantastique is a subgenre that originated in french literature, and elements of it can be seen in lots of modern fantasy. it usually involves the supernatural and "characters [that are] unwilling to accept the supernatural events that occur" (1).
★ what if i want to write something that isn't fantasy?
the theme isn't mandatory, because i worry that restricting people to a theme would lower participation, but it's heavily encouraged! most participants and readers from the previous round voted for this round to have a theme, and the theme was also chosen by them!
★ can i write (X) subgenre?
yes! fantasy subgenres are perfectly acceptable, if not encouraged for variety! some common subgenres are urban fantasy, supernatural, high fantasy, magical realism, ghost stories, fairy tales, gothic fiction, etc.
★ i have another question!
you can submit any questions you have to our curiouscat, or dm us on twitter!
prompting
topics/content that will not be accepted
★ incest, including roleplay
★ rape, non-con, and dub-con, including roleplay
★ underage (nsfw of minors)
★ self-harm/suicide
★ abuse
★ extreme violence/gore
to reiterate, no plagiarism of prompts. they must be your own ideas!
it's preferable that your prompt be related to the theme: fantasy. however, any prompt will be allowed as long as it complies with the other rules! also, prompts from the previous round that weren't claimed will be reused!
you may submit multiple prompts! you may also submit prompts as a creator, though you can’t claim your own prompts. if you have a prompt you also want to write for, you can self-prompt when claiming starts. there is an option on the claiming form for self-prompting!
prompts don’t have to be specific about the members involved, you can say “any,” and in the submission write them as “person a/b/c.” for example: “person a meets person b at a coffee shop.” you can also only have one person in the fic. example: “jun meets person b at a coffee shop.”
poly ships are welcome! submit it as ot3 or ot4, and then list the members you want involved (or don’t! or only specify a few! it’s open-ended). you can also submit ot5, where you don’t have to list the members, since it includes all five.
authors can claim more than one prompt, but you have to finish the fic for your first claimed prompt first, and submit, then you can contact us about claiming another prompt later if there are any left.
don’t be too vague when you submit your prompt! the above example is too vague, and it needs a bit more detail. what happens when they meet at the coffee shop, for example. but don’t give the entire outline of the fic in the prompt! the author needs a bit of room for interpretation, so that they can really make their fic unique and use their imagination for it.
be specific in what you DON’T want in the final product, because we don’t want you to be uncomfortable or unhappy with the result! please make sure to list any trope, theme, or anything at all you don’t want. please also make sure to specify if you’re okay with nsfw content.
claiming
claiming is first come first serve, meaning that you might not get the prompt you want! the archive will be updated to reflect claimed prompts every day, or every few days, so make sure to check it before submitting! you can choose three prompts, and submit them in order of most to least preferred. however, there’s no guarantee you’ll be able to claim any of them. if that’s the case, we will reach out to you (however, it’s unlikely you won’t get one of your top three)!
after submitting your claims, you’ll receive a confirmation email that details which prompt you got, as well as asking for a final confirmation that you’re joining + committed!
as soon as you respond to your confirmation email, you can start writing!
there’s also self-prompting! you’ll have the option to select claiming or self-prompting when claims start on june 6th. if you decide to self-prompt, you’ll write a summary of your idea there so we know what you’re writing. you’ll receive a confirmation email to confirm your idea is correct, and that you’re joining!
